T-55 - Soviet main and medium tank. Created on the basis of the T-54 tank. It was produced from 1958 to 1979. The world's first production tank equipped with an automatic anti-nuclear defense system (PAZ) is a pioneer of a new generation of military vehicles capable of conducting combat operations in the context of the use of nuclear weapons. It became the first tank available in the troops, which received a complex of active defense (KAZ "Drozd"). T-55 and its modification T-55A are widely exported and are in service with many countries of the world. In Western sources, T-54 and T-55 are often referred to as T-54/55.
