The Mercedes-Benz 320-passenger car, also designated W142, was created at the design bureau of Daimler-Benz AG, and its production began in 1937. It had a 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine (in later versions 3.4 liters) with a capacity of 78 horsepower. The model was produced with a short (2880 mm) or long (3300 mm) wheelbase and different body styles. The Cabriolet body version was available in a long wheelbase version. The four-seater version of this version had two doors and four side windows, the car's roof was soft and could be decomposed for protection from the elements. This car was often seen in the Wehrmacht, with some having civilian license plates. It was used as a staff vehicle, and it was also used to transport senior command personnel.
