By the end of 1947, the Swedes received information that the Bell X-1 experimental aircraft on October 14, 1947 had overcome the speed of sound in the USA. The resulting incentive made the SAAB development department think about the project of a supersonic fighter.

It was from that moment that the forms of the new fighter began to emerge, which in the 50s made people talk about Sweden as one of the leading aviation powers.
