Cruiser "Pallas", "Diana" and "Aurora", named after the ancient Greek goddesses, inherited its name from the sailing frigates, distinguished themselves in the development and protection of the Far Eastern borders of the Russian Empire in the first half of the 19th century. Designed as "fighters trade", being reduced by half (by tonnage and armament) version of the armored cruisers series "Rurik". In March 1895 he began the development of protected cruisers of the project for the Pacific and it was decided to build three of the same type of the cruiser at the St. Petersburg shipyard. As soon as the stocks at the shipyard "Galerny island" has begun construction of two cruisers "Pallas" and "Diana", and in September of work and turned on the construction of the third cruiser that March 31, 1897 was named "Aurora". Cruiser "Aurora" was launched on May 11, 1900 and came into operation Russian Navy warships in 1903. During the Russian-Japanese War, to make the transition in the 2 nd Pacific squadron to the Far East in the period from October 1904 by May 1905 the cruiser "Aurora" received its baptism of fire in the battle of Tsushima May 14-15, 1905. in the First world war "Aurora" takes an active part in the hostilities in the Baltic sea as part of the 2nd Brigade cruisers. In 1917, the crew of "Aurora" is actively involved in the February and October revolutionary events, civil war and foreign intervention reflection. Since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War the cruiser "Aurora" stood up to defend Leningrad. In 1956, at the "Aurora" was opened Ship Museum, a branch of the Central Naval Museum. Currently, the cruiser is on eternal parking in Petrograd embankment in St. Petersburg and is the subject of the Russian Federation cultural heritage.
