The project was developed naval architect Colonel Schott. Almost exactly the prototype was being built in the period battleship "Potemkin" ,, but had a better design of the conning tower and the system of armor artillery mine. July 13, 1903 enrolled in the lists of ships of the Black Sea Fleet and 23 November 1904 laid on the slipway Nicholas Admiralty launched on November 3, 1906, entered service May 28, 1911. October 10, 1907 reclassified as a battleship. August 11, 1911 together with the battleships "Panteleimon" "John Chrysostom" and "Rostislav" formed a brigade of battleships of the Black Sea. Battleship "Eustace" during the First World War, was the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet. November 5, 1914, near Yalta, a group of battleships of the Black Sea Fleet, led by "Evstafyev" (five battleships, three cruisers and mine brigade) suddenly met with the German battle cruiser "Goeben" accompanied by the light cruiser "Breslau". Hard Contact lasted less than 15 minutes at a distance of 7 to 5 km. "Eustace" released sixteen 305-mm shells, three of which hit the "Goeben" and caused a fire on the German cruiser. "Goeben" fired "Yevstafy" nineteen 280-mm shells, achieving four hits (33 sailors were killed and 35 - wounded). Due to poor visibility and poor organization of fire remaining Russian battleships have not achieved results; "Goeben" and "Breslau" managed to escape. December 29, 1917 became a member of the Red Black Sea Fleet.
