It was laid down on April 26, 1967; on January 12, 1968, it was enlisted in the list of the Navy ships. Entered into service on May 30, 1968. In autumn 1968 it made an inter-fleet passage around Europe from Baltiysk to Sevastopol. In 1969-1970, while on combat duty in the zone of military operations in the Mediterranean Sea, the ship fulfilled the combat mission of rendering assistance to the armed forces of Egypt. After the proclamation of Ukraine's independence, it became the first warship to raise the Ukrainian flag. On July 21, 1992, it made an unauthorised passage to Odessa. On July 07, 1993, it was excluded from the Russian Navy due to transfer to the Ukrainian Navy. On December 31, 1993, it was disbanded and in 1994 was scrapped in Sevastopol.
