SMS Albatross is a mine layer of the Imperial German Navy. Laid down in 1907, on May 19, 1908, the ship was handed over for testing. The pre-war years passed for the ship without any special events, in routine service. On July 1, 1915, Albatross set out to lay a minefield, accompanied by the armored cruiser Roon, the light cruisers Augsburg and Lubeck, and 7 destroyers. On the same day, the Russian cruisers "Admiral Makarov", "Bayan", "Bogatyr", "Oleg", "Rurik", the destroyer "Novik", and 8 destroyers went to sea to shell Memel. After intercepting a radio message about the end of laying mines, a brigade of Russian cruisers went to intercept the German ships. On the morning of July 2 at Fr. Gotland Russian ships found Augsburg, Albatross, 3 destroyers and opened fire on them. Albatross tried to hide in Swedish territorial waters, the cruisers Bogatyr and Oleg overtook him and opened concentrated fire. At 9 o'clock the burning Albatross washed ashore at Cape Esterhorn. 28 members of the ship's crew were killed in this battle, more than 50 were injured. In 1915, Albatross was floated. After the war, it was scrapped.
