Christ the Savior Cathedral was built in gratitude for the intercession of Christ the Savior in a critical period of Russian history as a monument to the courage of the Russian people in the fight against Napoleon's invasion in 1812. April 10, 1832 Emperor Nicholas I approved the Temple project, compiled by the architect KA Ton. The Emperor himself chose the place for the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - on the bank of the Moskva River, not far from the Kremlin. Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was built almost 44 years. In 1860, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior first appeared before the Muscovites in their greatness. It was established throughout Russia and became a visible manifestation of her glory, her faith and greatness, witnessed many historic events. December 5, 1931 Temple-monument to military glory, the main temple of Russia was barbarously destroyed. Many years after the explosion at the site of the majestic Temple monstrous gaping hole. In 1989. it was decided to restore the temple of Christ the Savior in strict accordance with the way he was, and in 1990. to the east of the pool was set the foundation stone. In December, 2000. all work on the exterior and interior decoration of the church have been completed.
