The plane of De Havilland D.H.88 «Comet" was designed in 1934 specifically for the aviation race from Mildenhall to Melbourne. This machine had a solid wooden structure. In the front part of the fuselage were three large fuel tanks, which were behind the tandem seat for the commander and co-pilot.
