The term "wagon" appeared in the 1870s as an abbreviation of the name "insulated wagon." Created in 1875, a commodity covered two-axle railway carriage, as the main type of carriage on Russian railways, had a constructive opportunity for its quick conversion for mass transportation of people in case of emergency.
