Cruiser "Pallas", "Diana" and "Aurora", named after the ancient Greek goddesses, inherited its name from the sailing frigates, distinguished themselves in the development and protection of the Far Eastern borders of the Russian Empire in the first half of the 19th century. Designed as "fighters trade", being reduced by half (by tonnage and armament) version of the armored cruisers series "Rurik".
