The first prototype Tu-116 based on Tu-20 bomber and renamed later Tu-114D flew in 1956. The first real Tu-114flew on October 3, 1957. On April 9, 1960 Tu-114 set the still unbeaten world speed record with 25000kg payload on a 5000 km circuit at 877.212kph. About 30 aircraft were built. They remained in service until 1970's.
