World's news
There is so much I want to say, but good news is hard to find.
Actually, that’s not entirely true.
Europe has finally liberated itself from Moscow’s long-standing proxy — Viktor Orbán.
After 20 years in power, the master of Hungary has suffered a crushing defeat.
Interestingly, Donald Trump’s endorsement of the Hungarian dictator only served to tank Orbán's approval ratings.
It’s fascinating how the U.S., Russia, and China — despite being adversaries — occasionally find themselves acting as unintentional allies.
Trump even sent J.D. Vance to personally support Orbán, but it backfired spectacularly.
These days, a seal of approval from the U.S. establishment seems to do more harm than good to a candidate's reputation. It feels as though everything Trump touches lately becomes instantly toxic.
Speaking of J.D. Vance, he recently boasted that the Trump administration’s crowning achievement is ending support for Ukraine. It could be a good idea, as long as those funds go toward doing some good in the world.
However, looking at the $50 billion spent in just six weeks on a losing war in Iran—a move that triggered a global oil crisis and skyrocketing inflation—it hardly seems like a better investment than maintaining world order.
As much as I’ve dreamed of the Iranian people finally being freed from tyranny and the country returning to the global economy, the reality of this poorly conceived American "special operation" is staring us in the face at the gas pump and in our grocery bills. We are watching the economy slide toward the bottom.
Unfortunately, while this latest war may have been a military "win" (no one ever doubted U.S. firepower), it is a strategic failure.
There is simply no good exit strategy in sight. This is a trap.
Negative Selection
It reminds me vividly of Putin’s "special operation" in February 2022.
Remember the second-tier columns of the russian army were trucks filled with riot gear, batons, and even parade uniforms and brass bands?
They were so delusional in their conviction of a quick victory that they were planning a victory parade in the streets of Kyiv within days.
Back then, the russians were certain that a force of 200,000 could seize a nation of 45 million in 48 hours.
Both operations were disastrously planned and poorly prepared.
To me, this is the inevitable result of "negative selection" in leadership — when intelligent, capable people are sidelined in favor of loyalists who are too dim-witted to be ambitious and too terrified to tell the truth to their boss.
The 'sophisticated and highly advanced' Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, says: 'The Strait of Hormuz is open; you can sail through it freely. The only minor detail is that they’re shooting at ships there.'
And he says this seriously! Fine for a Fox News morning segment. Unacceptable for a Secretary of Defense.
Or you’ve likely noticed by now how thin-skinned Trump is whenever someone dares to criticize his actions.
These critics are met with mockery and direct insults coming from the President of the world’s most powerful nation and his official administration.
Trump picks fights with everyone. Take Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni—they used to have an excellent relationship.
But now, even that bond is shattered because Trump chose to insult the Pope.
Why attack the Pope for a self-evident plea to stop the killing and end the war? It is literally the Pope’s job to bring a message of peace and goodwill to the world.
And when someone like George Clooney disagrees with Trump’s policies and speaks out, the White House issues an official response like this: "The only one committing war crimes is Clooney himself, with his terrible movies and disgusting acting."
Good Lord, what utter nonsense.
This is an official statement from the United States administration.
They sound like a bunch of offended middle schoolers.
If you're sure you are right, true strength doesn't need to shout to be felt.
From oil to electricity
Ironically, Trump has accelerated the global energy transition.
This is actually a positive outcome, though achieved through chaotic means.
While the new U.S. policy screams "drill, baby, drill," the rest of the world is moving in the opposite direction.
Seeing the prices at the pump, even more people are switching to electric energy.
This process is irreversible. Once people make the jump, they aren’t going back to internal combustion engines.
Filling up a thirsty pickup truck is becoming an unsustainable luxury.
Beyond the natural evolution toward EVs, even skeptics are starting to consider electric alternatives.
As people transition, the demand for oil will continue to erode.
This is just the tip of the iceberg—we are already seeing the rapid development of electric trucks and ferries.
Evolution happens fast, but when demand is this high, it moves at warp speed.
Just look at the war in Ukraine: in four years, it has evolved through several technological eras. The warfare of 2026 bears almost no resemblance to that of 2022.
You either lead the evolutionary process or you desperately try to obstruct it—but in the end, you’re only delaying your inevitable loss. Time only moves forward!
The ultimate irony is that the U.S. may end up as the loser in this energy transition.
And who wins the race? The very country the U.S. considers its greatest rival.
China! Beyond their hundreds of EV manufacturers, China produces 75-80% of the world’s batteries.
The Economist recently featured a cover with a smiling Xi Jinping standing behind Trump, captioned:
Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake.
P.S.
I regularly receive emails from offended Trump supporters.
They tell me: "You just lost a customer! How dare you speak so unflatteringly about my president!"
What surprises me most is that even they don't stoop to insulting me in their emails (perhaps it’s because I’m not George Clooney or the Pope?).
To them, I always respond: I draw a clear line between ordinary Americans and politicians.
Ordinary Americans are kind, empathetic, and sincere in their desire to do good. I have always believed in them and deeply respect them, whether they are Republicans or Democrats.
I always ask them to note that I never speak ill of ordinary Americans. I love them!
However, politicians' actions always ripple down to the people.
If you choose to build a hospital, you’ve done something good for the people.
But if you choose to destroy America’s authority built by these Americans by threatening and picking fights with everyone, you are hurting everyone.
As a business owner, my first priority is to stick my tongue up my ass and think about sales.
But as a person, I have to be honest with myself.
At the end of the day, I’d rather lose a customer than lose my conscience and my right to speak my mind.
Thank you for staying on the bright side!
