USS Indianola, a river battleship, was built by Joseph Brown in Cinncinati, Ohio in 1862 to serve on the Mississippi and its tributaries. January 14, 1863 was put into operation, January 23, 1863 in Cairo (Cairo), Illinois joined the flotilla of Rear Admiral David Porter. Soon, Indianola was sent down the Mississippi to block the mouth of the Red River. The first battle of Indianola occurred on the night of February 13-14, 1863, when the ship managed to pass Vicksburg under the fire of coastal batteries. On February 24, Indianola, anchored about 30 miles south of Vicksburg, was attacked by CSS Queenof the West and CSS Webb. The ship received significant damage and sank on the shallows. Repair work began on the southerners captured by Indianola. To prevent Indianola from becoming part of the enemy’s troops, Rear Admiral Porter sent a river barge disguised as a monitor to the flooding site of the ship. The hoax was a success. The Confederates, learning about the presence of an armored ship, blew up Indianola on March 4, 1863. A simple but rather interesting model. Recommended for all fleet enthusiasts.
