The first battleship of Chinese construction. A small low-sinking ship, launched at the end of September 1875, carried on its deck a fixed casemate, shifted to the bow and protected by slabs of iron armor 2.38 inches thick (about 60 mm). Initially, the ship was intended for patrolling in the southern stream of the river. Yangtze and the defense of its main navigable mouth - Usun. The only 170-mm gun Krupp fired through the port in the front wall of the casemate. Around 1887 the gunboat was renamed to "Tianxing". During the Franco-Chinese War, she carried patrol duty on a par with other, more modern warships. After the Xinhai Revolution of 1911, the ship became part of the armed forces of Anhui Province, where he continued to be listed on the fleet lists until 1914.
