In 1938, the founder and head of the firm, Ettore Bugatti (Bugatti), created the aviation design department of Bugatti, who immediately took up the ambitious task of designing and building a high-speed fighter. Then the plans were adjusted to create a racing airplane with an eye to winning the prestigious German Cup. At its designing a number of non-standard constructive decisions and novelties in the field of aircraft construction were realized. Implementation of plans for the construction of the aircraft prevented the Second World War. When the Germans entered Paris in June 1940, the prototype of the aircraft was about 80% ready, and they decided to hide it. After the liberation of France, the plane was remembered, but in post-war France it was not up to racing planes. Semi-assembled prototype aircraft in 1970, bought a professional restorer of Bugatti cars Ray Jones and forwarded it to the United States. There he was removed engines for use on cars. Later the plane got to Peter Williams, who sent a half-disassembled car to Connecticut, where he was restored. Now the plane is exhibited in the Oshkosh air museum (Wisconsin).
