Fighter I-153 was developed on the initiative of Polikarpov autumn of 1937. It is a further development of the fighter I-15. The main difference was in the retractable landing gear. By the beginning of the war, along with the I-16 it formed the basis of Soviet fighter aircraft. It used during World War II until 1943, mainly as a ground attack aircraft. As part of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet a few I-153 were used until the end of the war for the protection of inland sea convoys in the White Sea. Until now preserved only 1 copy of the I-153 pre-war construction, which is on display at the Aviation Museum in Le Bourget (France)
