IL-2 (single) was produced from March 1941 to February 1943. It is a modification of the serial attack aircraft not equipped with a cabin for the rear gunner. At the beginning of the war single IL-2 suffered heavy losses, especially against attacks by enemy fighters behind. The problem of the protection of the rear hemisphere stormtrooper tried to solve the installation of the rear fuselage machine guns firing back. In August 1942, the Air Force Institute tested two IL-2 with machine guns and ShKAS collar, but a series of them did not. In the summer of 1942, in line units began reworking single aircraft in doubles (converted about 1,200 aircraft). In October, double version was put into production (double and single IL-2 prior to 1943 were issued in parallel). IL-2 Production continued until 1945, when he was replaced by tselnomelallichesky the Il-10. Another great development Vyacheslav Zaitsev.
