After the Battle of Hampton Roads in March 1862, the US Navy Department ordered a large number of ironclads. And already in April 1862, John Ericsson prepared drawings for a very large, 4,000-ton monitor, with a streamlined hull and a powerful power plant, intended for service on the high seas.
Dictator entered the Navy in December 1864. She was placed in reserve in September 1865. She was then recommissioned in 1869 and served until 1871, when she was placed in reserve again. She was hastily recommissioned in 1874 due to the conflict between the United States and Spain. She was sold for scrap in 1883.
A small model with a fairly high level of complexity, recommended for experienced modelers.
