Corner Arsenal Tower of the Kremlin. In 1492, architect P. Solari this tower completed the Kremlin's line of defense on the part of Red Square. According to the architect, it had become the most powerful corner tower. Not far from the tower were the mansions of the boyars Sobakins, so the tower was originally called Sobakina. Only at the beginning of the XVIII century after the construction of the Arsenal tower received its present name. The tower has a wide base, the powerful four-meter walls, leaving deep into the ground. However, the tower served not only defensive functions. To this day, the tower has a secret well, which in the case of the siege could use garrison. In addition, the tower was a secret exit to the Neglinnaya River, which was subsequently laid. Nikolskaya Tower of the Kremlin. The tower was built by architect P. Solari in 1491. Its name is associated with an icon of St. Nicholas, placed over a gate strelnitsa travel. As with all travel towers, there was a drawbridge across the moat, and on the gates - the protective grilles. In 1612, during the struggle with the Polish invaders people's militia led by Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin with the battle burst exactly in the gate and released the Kremlin. At the beginning of the XIX century, the tower was rebuilt, prezh-NJ superstructure was replaced by a Gothic top with delicate ornaments. These ornaments and the four slender towers at the corners of the lower quadrangle distinguish Nikolskaya tower from the other towers of the Kremlin. In 1812 the tower was blown up by retreating from Moscow to the French. Restored in 1816.
