The second generation BMW fifth series with the body index E28 was presented in January 1981 in Munich. The "fifth" of the first generation in the body of the E12 had tremendous success with buyers all over the world, so BMW's management did not dare to radically change the look of the car. E28 was a very successful model for tuning. As large German players in the market of exclusive cars, and overseas, they released small parties of charged "fencers". In December 1987, all E28 models were discontinued. At the BMW plant in South Africa, the assembly of machine kits was completed later - in 1989.
