The American destroyer was laid down at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co shipyard (Bristol R.I.) in February 1896. Launched on 9 September of the same year. Joined on February 20, 1897. Participated in the blockade of the northern coast of Cuba. Since 1908, he was the flagship of the 3rd torpedo flotilla in Florida. Porter Excluded from the American Navy on November 6, 1912 and was sold.
