Construction of the stone fort, located on the Atlantic coast of France in the Strait Antiosh, was launched in 1801 to the already existing in the Strait sandbar from which the title and was the name of the fort. The construction was "protracted" - the castle was completed only in 1857. Fort had a length of 68 m and a width of 31 m and height of the walls reaches up to 20 meters. Boyyara garrison consisted of 250 people. But by the time of completion of the construction of the fort fortress became unnecessary. For more than 50 years that have passed since the moment of laying the fort, long range artillery greatly increased, and now the coastal batteries easily blocked Strait. The need for a newly built fort has disappeared, but it remained the responsibility of the Military Department of France and later used as a prison.
