Canberra is a British medium bomber. It made its first flight on May 13, 1949. The first serial "Canberra" took off on April 21, 1950, "Canberra" was an all-metal cantilever midwing plane with a single-fin tail unit and a tricycle landing gear with a nose strut. The fuselage of the "semi-monocoque" type, with a circular cross section, was divided into three compartments. The bow section with the cockpit is separated by a sealed partition. The radio-electronic equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems were located behind the pressurized cabin. In the central part of the fuselage, there were two bomb bays with hydraulic flaps. In total, until 1962, 949 Canberras of various modifications were produced, of which 901 were produced in England at the factories of English Electric, Short Brothers, Avro, Handley Page and Boulton-Paul, and 48 in Australia. The Canberra received its baptism of fire during the 1956 Suez Crisis. The appearance in the mid-1950s of supersonic fighters with onboard radar equipment and an air-to-air missile launcher ended the career of subsonic bombers. From now on, the use of "Canberras" as tactical bombers in the main theater of operations became possible only when air supremacy was achieved and with fighter cover. The use of "Canberra" in local wars, where the risk of collision with a modern enemy is not so great, seemed more successful. There was also the opportunity to use the "Canberra" as training and various kinds of auxiliary aircraft. The most successful can be considered two modifications, released in small numbers in the 60s. T.Mk.11 served to train operators of airborne radars for all-weather fighter-interceptors. In its bow there were antennas of various types of radars. T.Mk.17 was used to train operators of electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare, with the installation of appropriate equipment. Several TT Mk.18 target towing aircraft were also produced. Individual aircraft T.Mk.17 were used until 2006. In total, about 950 aircraft were built in the UK and Australia.

"Canberra" was exported to 15 countries of the world and was used in many military conflicts. In the United States, the aircraft was produced under license under the designation B-57.
