RAL 7028 Dark Yellow Color Guide:
RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb was introduced as the uniform camouflage color for German vehicles in 1943 in accordance with A.H.M. 1943, Blatt 9 of April 7, 1943, with the introduction of a new mimicry camouflage or Buntaranstriche. This document suggested using RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb (however, this was an early version of the color), RAL 8017 Rotbraun Nr. 19, and RAL 6003 Olivgrün to camouflage German vehicles.
In October 1944 a new shade Dunkelgelgelb RAL 7028, Ausgabe 1944 (Dark yellow RAL 7028, version 1944) was introduced. The new shade was darker and slightly greenish. The change was necessary because the Dunkelgelgelb RAL 7028 shade had not proven itself in Central Europe. Dunkelgelgelb RAL 7028, Ausgabe 1944 replaced the Dunkelgelgelb RAL 7028, Ausgabe 1943 shade used previously for this purpose.
In the fall of 1944, the so-called Sparanstrich (economical coating) was introduced. Until then, the entire vehicle was first painted completely in Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 and then the camouflage colors were applied. Sparanstrich meant applying the camouflage colors directly on the red anti-corrosion paint RAL 8012 - 1/3 Dunkelgelb RAL 7028, 1/3 Olivgrün RAL 6003, and 1/3 Rotbraun RAL 8017. In this way, about 2/3 of the Dunkelgelb paint could be saved.
Based on the regulation H.V.Bl. 1945 Teil B, Blatt 4 of 12 February 1945 No. 52 (O.K.H., 24 January 1945 - 70 k 10/10 - WaA/Wa Chef Ing 1/V), Olivgrün RAL 6003 was to be used as the new base color, replacing the previously used RAL 7028 Dunkelgelgelb.
RAL 7028 Dark Yellow was also used for camouflage painting of equipment and ammunition such as canisters, ammunition boxes, weapons, flasks, etc.
