During the Russian-Japanese War became clear the urgent need for Russia to strengthen the Russian Fleet in the Far East. Russia ordered 18 German submarines. May 24, 1904 a contract was signed with the firm Krupp to build three submarines and the purchase of 75 torpedoes Schwarzkopf. August 21 secret order â„–173 boat enrolled in the payroll of the Russian Imperial Navy as a destroyer "Trout." "Trout" was at the time a valuable asset: it was the only boat deployable, ready for immediate delivery to the Far East - the small size of the boat was not allowed to disassemble the "Trout" and transported it entirely on conventional cargo platform. Since Port Arthur by then had already been blocked, "the German gift" and everyone else had to send a submarine to Vladivostok. August 25 boat loaded on the railway platform (with batteries and torpedo tubes, but somehow without a single torpedo) and hitched to the military echelon (crew rode the same train). The road has not been uneventful, and 25 September, the goods arrived in Vladivostok. October 2 it made its maiden voyage - so far only on the Vladivostok harbor. From that day "Trout" - the first submarine in the Far East - I was constantly on the alert in case of blockade of Vladivostok Japanese fleet. Swimming on Golden Horn Bay continued until the beginning of November, and then lifted the boat to shore. Spring 1905 has stood out early, Bay cleared of ice, and the submarine start to make trips around the bay, and at the end of March in Vladivostok finally brought torpedoes. Since then, the submarines are no longer just be a virtual threat. May 23, 1911 "Trout" was suspended and deposited at the port, and on May 31 was deleted from the lists of the Siberian Flotilla.
