RLM 74 Dark Greenish-Gray Color Guide:
RLM 74 Dunkelgrau (or Graugrün in some sources) was added to L.Dv. 521/1 with the November 1941 revision.
RLM 74 Dark Gray was suggested for the fighter aircraft camouflage consisting of patches of RLM 74 and RLM 75 Mittelgrau on the upper surfaces and RLM 76 Lichtblau for painting undersides. This scheme was also used in ANR squadrons to camouflage not only German aircraft but also Italian fighters.
RLM 74 Graugrun was also used for camouflage of Late-WW2 Luftwaffe night fighter aircraft. This camouflage scheme suggested irregular mottlings of RLM 74 and RLM 75 on the upper surfaces, fully painted with RLM 76. The lower surfaces, according to this scheme, remained RLM 76 or could be painted with RLM 22 Schwarz to better blend in with the night sky.
RLM 74 Dark Gray was also used in a transitional fighter camouflage scheme at the end of World War II, consisting of RLM 74 and RLM 83 Dunkelgrün on the upper surfaces with RLM 76 on the lower surfaces. This was due to the lack of stocks of RLM 82 at some German aircraft factories in late 1944 and early 1945.
