The Fairchild C-123 Provider is an American military transport aircraft developed after World War II and manufactured by Fairchild Aircraft Corporation. It entered service with the United States Air Force in 1955. In addition to the U.S. Air Force, it was also actively used by the Coast Guard and the Alaska Federal Aviation Administration. For use in Alaska's Arctic conditions, Fairchild J44 engines were mounted on the wingtips and skis were installed on the landing gear. This variant was designated C-123J. The Alaska Air National Guard used the C-123J to patrol Arctic territory and deliver supplies and essential equipment to officers at Wehrmacht polar stations.
