RLM 23 Red Color Guide:
An authentic bright red color, officially introduced in 1938 in accordance with Luftwaffe Directive L.Dv. 521.
A bright red color was used for the German flag on aircraft in the late 1930s.
RLM 23 Red was used as a marking color for fire extinguisher lines of Luftwaffe aircraft.
From 1936 the RLM 23 Red was used for color tactical markings on JG 132 aircraft. In JG 132 was 1938 re-formed into I. Gruppe of JG 331.
RLM 23 Rot was also used for identification and markings, emblems, prop spinners, etc. on Luftwaffe WW2 aircraft.
Red RLM 23 was used as the identification color for the 2, 5, and 8 Staffeln of fighter Geswader, as well as the 2, 5, 8, 11, and 14 Staffeln of bomber Geswader, respectively.
A red color of Reich Defense (Reichsverteidigung) fuselage bands on Luftwaffe fighter aircraft in 1944. Fuselage bands painted completely RLM 23 Red indicated that the aircraft belonged to JG 1 "Oesau". The tail bands consisted of RLM 23 and RLM 24 Dunkelblau stripes were applied to the JG 7 Novotny aircraft. The Reich defense bands consisted of RLM 23 and RLM 27 Gelb were used for JG 301 "Wilde Sau" aircraft markings. Fuselage bands of Red RLM 23 and RLM 21 Weiß were carried by JG 52 fighters. JG 6 "Horst Wessel" carried the equal-width red-white-red strips of RLM 23/RLM 21/RLM 23. The checkerboard fuselage bands of RLM 23 Rot and RLM 22 Schwarz were used for markings of KG(J) 6 aircraft.
