RAL 7012 Basaltgrau
A high-quality semi-gloss German basalt gray acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and historical miniatures.
RAL 7012 Basalt Gray Color Guide:
RAL 7012 Basalt Gray - the closest analog of the color of the underwater parts of Kriegsmarine warships during World War II.
RAL 7012 Basaltgrau continues to be used as the underwater surface color of modern German warships in the Bundesmarine.
RAL 7012 Basaltgrau was used to camouflage the upper surfaces of German Navy aircraft according to the Marineflieger Norm 76 camouflage scheme. The lower surfaces according to this camouflage were to be painted in RAL 7035 Lichtgrau or RAL 9006 Weißaluminium.
RAL 7012 Basaltgrau also found its use in the Marineflieger Norm 87 camouflage scheme, consisting of patches of RAL 7012 Basaltgrau, RAL 7009 Grüngrau and RAL 5008 Graublau.
RAL 7012 Basaltgrau was also used in the German Army Aviation. According to the Norm 62 and Norm 72 camouflage schemes, RAL 7012 together with RAL 6014 Gelboliv were used to camouflage the upper surfaces, while the lower surfaces were painted in RAL 7035 Lichtgrau or RAL 9006 Weißaluminium (for F-104s).
According to the Norm 81B scheme, RAL 7012 Basaltgrau was to be used to camouflage the upper surfaces of the aircraft, along with RAL 7037 Staubgrau, RAL 7039 Quarzgrau, and RAL 7009 Grüngrau. The lower surfaces of the aircraft were to be painted in the camouflage of RAL 7035 and RAL 7030 Steingrau respectively.
Modern German SAR helicopters are painted in a multi-color camouflage consisting of the colors RAL 7012 Basalt Gray, RAL 7009 Green Gray, and RAL 7023 Concrete Gray.
RAL 7012 Basaltgrau is also used to paint the radio-transparent tailfin antennas of Panavia Tornado aircraft.
