F-4B BuNo.151477 AA-207, VMFA-531 Grey Ghosts, USS Forrestal, during cross decking, operated from HMS Ark Royal from 23 February to 6 March 1973. Painting tail like FG.1, a consequence of political decisions Malta government - during cruise time they did not like US. I. e. was impossible to drop F-4B into HMS Royal Ark hangar - dimensions along folding lines are larger than that of FG.1, so VMFA-531 Phantom get this “camo”.
