The Mi-6VKP (air command post) was developed on the basis of a serial Mi-6 specially created equipment control department (ORO) of repair plant Air Force 535 in Konotop. Work began in late 1972. ORO was headed by Mr. DM Melnikov, and the leading specialists were the majors VM Morozov, VF Kosenkov and captain EI Marfenkov.
