The SU-76i is a medium-mass Soviet self-propelled artillery unit (SAU) of assault weapons class based on German Pz Kpfw III and SAU StuG III captured by the Red Army. The index "and" in the designation SU-76i denotes a foreign base for self-propelled guns. In fact, the ACS was put into service under the designation "SU S-1". In the post-war press, the designation â€œSU-76 (C-1)â€ is also found. Unlike previously manufactured self-propelled howitzers, cutting in the new ACS received inclined sides, which increased their strength.
