Heavy carrier-borne cruisers (TAKRs) of the "Kiev" type were built for the Navy of the USSR as the basis of the naval formations of the fleet. The cruiser Kiev was laid in the city of Nikolaev. On December 28, 1975, the state trials of "Kiev" were completed and the act of its acceptance by the fleet was signed. To solve combat missions on the ship, up to 36 aircraft were based: the Yak-38 aircraft, as well as the Ka-25 and Ka-27 helicopters. "Kiev" was included in the Red Banner Northern Fleet and was based in Severomorsk, regularly making hikes with combat services in the strategically important Mediterranean basin. In total, TAKR "Kiev" during its service passed 240,850 miles, from its deck 4258 sorties were carried out by airplanes and 9154 by helicopters. In 1994, the cruiser solemnly lowered the Naval Flag and disarmed, and in 1999 was sold for scrap metal in China, where in 2003 the ship was converted into an attraction museum, and in 2011 - into a luxurious hotel afloat.
