The EQ2050 Meng Shi, (also known as the Dongfeng Armour), is a 1.5 tonne capacity, four wheel drive troop/cargo carrier developed by the Dongfeng Motor Corporation. The vehicle was based on the General Motors HMMWV with some minor modifications. According to Chinese media reports the military version, the EQ2050 made with 100% Chinese parts passed the design finalisation trial by the PLA in December 2006.

The Model

The model comes in a sturdy top opening box with a rendering of the vehicle in a parade setting. Inside the box are seven sprues of beige coloured styrene along with a separate chassis and bonnet. All the parts are well moulded with no flash and only a few moulding pips to remove. HobbyBoss also provide one sprue of clear styrene, one small etch fret and five rubber tyres. To finish the model there is a very nice full colour painting guide and a small sheet of decals. The eight paged instruction sheet is very clear and well laid out.

Construction starts with the chassis rail unit with the addition of the propshafts, front and rear suspension, front and rear differentials and exhaust. On the main body part the multiple part seats are fitted along with the control pedals, handbrake, gearstick and radiator. The storage area is fitted out with plastic and PE parts followed by the dashboard and steering wheel. The chassis rail sub-assembly is then attached to the chassis. The chassis sides and rear can then be added with the windscreen, which comes with sun visors and wipers and finally the four part doors can be fitted. The bonnet sub-assembly is built up with lights, plastic out grilles and internal etched grilles. Once complete the bonnet can be added to the rest of the model. Finally the wheel hubs can be built up and fitted with the rubber tyres and added to the completed vehicle assembly. The last parts to be added are the four sided roll bar and wing mirrors.
